"HaveLIFE?!” is both a question and an offer. It Asks the question: do I have an abundant LIFE? And it offers the Abundant LIFE Jesus Christ said He came to give.
In John 10:10 Jesus was describing the fact that there are false shepherds (prophets, preachers, people, even imagined gods) who actually only “steal and kill and destroy.” But in great contrast Jesus Himself, “the Good Shepherd,” “came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
Jesus was not offering some sort of life different, or better than the LIFE He Himself lived. And the LIFE Jesus lived was certainly not what human beings normally think of as “abundant.” So the question is, “what kind of LIFE did Jesus live, and what made it ‘abundant'"?
Jesus LIFE was certainly not characterized by material wealth, relational comforts, and physical ease. So what made Jesus’ LIFE “Abundant” with capital LIFE letters?
I believe it was characterized by what the Bible describes as “the fruit of the Spirit.” Jesus LIVED perfect: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” As such Jesus was in fellowship with God the Father, every moment of every day.
Another part of the Abundance of Jesus’ LIFE was that in obedience He represented (witnessed of) God in everything He was and did.
So the issue for me and for you is: Do I have this Abundant LIFE that Jesus had? Or, am I looking to other things as a measure of my Life? The other issue is do I really want to accept the Offer of LIFE that Jesus gives. It is free to us but the cost to God was high beyond our comprehension. Jesus died, and lives, so that we may LIVE if we believe Who Jesus is, and what He has done for us. So, “HaveLIFE?!"
